FUNCTIONAL STONEWARE CREATED BY GEORGINE LONGFELLOW
About
A native Oregonian, my love of clay started very young and has continued into my 70’s. In college I spent most of my time in the pottery studio, my husband and I eventually built a gas kiln in our backyard and learned so much about firing and glazes. Later during the busy time of family and parents, I became a pottery equipment collector rather than a maker. Now that our family is grown and caring for parents has passed, I have time for pottery again, and have the equipment necessary to fill the studio. I like to look at the world with clay in mind...seeing colors and textures in nature as they could relate to clay. I love the chemistry of making and firing glazes in my electric kilns, now at cone 6. I am always looking for that elusive, interesting, yet functional glaze. I make wheel-thrown and hand built pottery, and bowls are still my favorite form. I create pots that will function in the kitchen, vessels that are durable and dishwasher safe. I also love making work for the garden such as flower pots, hanging art and even beer bowls for the slugs. I have sold through outdoor markets and small galleries. OPA’s Ceramic Showcase is a beautiful show where over 150 ceramic artists sell and visit in the Spring. I also sell by appointment in a small gallery at our home.
